Tummy tuck also known as abdominoplasty, is a plastic surgery which removes the excess fat and loose skin from tummy as well as strengths the muscles of abdominal wall. There are many people having tummy tuck surgery due to excess fat and skin due to different reasons such as pregnancy, heredity, excess weight loss. Depending on the condition of the patient, abdominoplasty surgeries can vary in their types such as mini-tummy, full tummy tuck, extended tummy tuck.

Since abdominoplasty is removal of excess fat and loose skin from the abdominal wall, it requires both external and internal healing. Therefore, depending on the range of surgery, patients should do minimal physical activities for the first week after the surgery. In the first few days, a patient can feel very painful but painkillers will decrease the amount of pain. The doctors also will give you antibiotics in order to prevent any infection.

Patients can see a significant difference right after the tummy tuck surgery which means excess skin and fat will gone immediately after the surgery. However, there can be swelling, bruising and redness from 2 to 3 weeks depending on the case. In these two or three weeks, patients start to see their new shape of body which means that the swelling in the body starts resolving. Approximately in 6 months, the results of the tummy tuck procedure become exactly noticeable. However, it may last a year or more for the incision lines to fade.

Each type of tummy tuck surgery has its own recovery time. For example, recovery of mini-tummy tuck takes shorter compared to standard abdominoplasty. In general, results remain permanent. However, you should keep in your mind that gaining and losing weight may affect your results negatively. In addition, do not forget that the scars will remain on the body but, it is easy to hide the scars which remain below underwear.
