Body Hair Transplant To Head

A high-density hair transplant is at the top of the factors that ensure success in hair transplantation. In other words, even if you have a very good technical knowledge and make the angle, direction and hairline of the hair look natural, if you cannot achieve a dense hair transplant, the outcome of the operation will not be satisfactory. For this reason, increasing density is an important goal in hair transplantation operations. Thus, it is necessary to increase the sources of hair follicles which will be transplanted.

In addition to traditionally used nape hair, a denser hair transplantation can be performed using body hair as a source. This is called body hair transplant.

The importance of chest hair has increased considerably in androgenic hair loss cases with insufficient nape hair. In FUE hair transplantation, exceeding the donor capacity leads to disruption in the integrity of the nape area. Therefore, it will not be right to put too much pressure on the nape hair. Those who have hair transplantation using body hair resort to this procedure due to the problem of donor capacity. As a solution, in such cases body hair can be used from other body parts like chest, beard, back and etc. Hair transplantation from chest hair is performed as the third alternative method after hair and beard.

HAIR TRANSPLANTATION FROM BODY HAIR

Not all body hair is suitable for hair transplantation. It is never considered as the first option.

● For hair transplantation from the chest, the most important criterion is the chest hair to be thick and stiff. Otherwise, the waste rate will increase during the collection of chest hair. In addition, weak hairs’ chance of life is low in the transplanted area.
● Chest hair usually consists of single grafts. We can say that it is more advantageous to achieve a denser hair transplantation.
● As the chest hair is curly during the growth phase, it seems more suitable for transplantation to the top and back of the head rather than the front area.
● It is an alternative option when hair grafts are not sufficient to fix a failed hair transplant. Thinner body hair is a good option for eliminating the unnatural appearance.

Collecting body hair is no different than collecting hair grafts after anaesthesia. It can be done with a micromotor or manual method (FUE hair transplantation). Here, it is important to pay attention to the angles of the chest hairs. In the transplantation of body hair, the DHI hair transplantation technique yields very good results. Also, the unshaven FUE method can be successfully applied when hair transplantation is performed from body hair.

Post-Op Period of the Hair Follicles Taken From the Body
It takes a week or ten days for the tiny scabs remaining on the hair follicles collected from all parts of the body to completely disappear. It takes a few months to achieve a fully homogeneous appearance. If a second operation is to be performed from the areas where the hair follicles were collected, after 6 months these areas can be re-harvested as they repair themselves completely. After 2 years, the transplanted hair follicles begin to get closer to the hair character of the area where it was transplanted. In other words, if the hair follicles taken from the nape area are transplanted into the eyebrow area, they may start growing slower over time. It is not expected of them to have the exact same character, though.

Result
Hair transplantation from the body is used in people whose hair follicles in the nape area are not sufficient. The aim is to increase the success of hair transplantation. Suitable hair follicles from various parts of the body are taken into consideration.

If there are some hair follicles collected from the nape area, they can be used for critical spots on the transplantation area, like the frontal hairline, to create a natural appearance. Hair follicles from other parts of the body can rather be used as supportive and density-increasing sources. Thus, more voluminous and satisfactory hair transplantation results are obtained.
